history & roots

Elizabeth Butler was born in North Carolina in 1990, the youngest of three children. Her father was the president of a prominent food manufacturing company and, paired with her mother's creative spirit, she was able to gain great exposure to both the business and art worlds. Elizabeth's parents lovingly fostered her passions and endeavors, from ballet lessons to pottery classes.

Her ballet career culminated in 2005 while dancing with a ballet theatre. After an early retirement she was able to shift her focus from the performing arts to the visual arts, during which time she rediscovered her passion for book making and paper. In 2008 Elizabeth attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia, but returned home in early 2009 to spend time with her father. Her father's illness and subsequent death have been one of the most influential factors in her life and art.

With the encouragement of family and friends, Elizabeth began her studies at The Savannah College of Art & Design in the fall of 2009, where she pursued a BFA in Printmaking and Book Arts. In May of 2013, Elizabeth married her best friend and high school sweetheart, Calen Butler. After graduating from SCAD in 2014, Elizabeth began teaching pure barre to balance her passion for health and art. They currently reside in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with their three children, Weston, Russell, and Reagan.
